Jones and Williams Take Home AFL Honors for Week 18

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the SaberCats announced today that defensive back Andre Jones and wide receiver Fred Williams earned weekly honors from the AFL for their play this past Saturday in San Jose’s key 55-31 win over the New Orleans VooDoo. Jones was named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week for his impressive performance. Williams earned Cutters Catch of the Week Honors for his outstanding over the wall touchdown reception on Saturday night in San Jose.
Jones (5-11, 195, Akron) tallied four-and-a-half tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned 19 yards for a first quarter score, in San Jose’s 55-31 victory over VooDoo. Jones also had two pass breakups in the game. Jones is currently the team’s second leading tackler with 73.5 total stops and leads the SaberCats with five interceptions.
Williams (6-0, 195, St. Cloud State) displayed great concentration as he made a catch over the boards in the corner of the end zone for the final score in San Jose’s Week 18 victory over New Orleans. The catch was one of six Williams came away with in Week 18, three of which were scores. Williams also collected 75 yards as a kick returner in the game. Williams collects his second consecutive AFL award after being named the JLS Ironman for his Week 17 performance against the Chicago Rush.
